"I wish there was a way to know you are in the good ol' days before you've actually left them." — The Office
Well, I know I'm still in the good ol' days, people, and I'm soaking up every single minute of it.
I cannot believe we are already here in a new year. 2016 was a whirlwind of a year and without a doubt the best year of my life so far. So it goes without saying that 2017 has a lot to live up to.
Last year was the bomb diggity. That's the only phrase I can seem to come up with that even remotely describes how awesome, joyful, blessed and mind blowing it was. It was so awesome that I really didn't want it to end, and I got a little sad knowing that I would never get to live in 2016 again. I know it will be one of those defining years I'll get all nostalgic about when I'm older. Shoot, I'm getting nostalgic about it right now.
Some really big things happened for me (and us) in 2016.
For one, J+S got engaged! Yay!
Yep, this handsome fella got down on one knee is this exact spot on his family's land and asked me the easiest question I've ever answered. Sometimes I still cannot believe I got so lucky (more on that later, I'm sure).
And then we got married! Yay!
Whew! Look how handsome he is! (See, I promised you more later.) I hear so many brides and grooms talk about how they don't remember a single thing from their wedding day, so I consider myself extremely lucky because I remember every single minute of it. I remember almost running into my groom the morning of the wedding, the feeling of elegance I felt in my wedding dress, the exact words my dad said to me before we left for the ceremony, getting blasted with 30 mph winds and chunking the veil idea seconds before walking down the aisle, the look of pure love on my groom's face as I walked down the aisle toward him, the family dog crashing our first dance, the cake he shoved in my face (debate is ongoing as to who shoved first), the unbelievable amount of dancing that happened at our reception, and the feeling of never wanting to leave that day and place.
Sorry guys, got a little lost talking about it there. See what you have to look forward to with my blog?! Rambling, rambling and a little more rambling. Get excited.
Anyway, even more great stuff happened in 2016! I left my full time job and we started a business. Yay!
Photography and graphic design have been what I have wanted to do since my early years of college. When we set a wedding date, I knew I would be moving to Cleveland where Justin was after the wedding — I missed the small town life and OKC just wasn't working for me, so I had no doubt in my mind I wanted to move. That meant leaving my full time job (which I really enjoyed) and figuring out what I was going to do next.
The more and more I thought and prayed about it, the more I was called to starting JS Creations.
I really had no idea what kind of traction I would get with our new business. I planned for the worst, knowing that start-ups take time, but then I found myself completely booked up for November and December with photo sessions and freelance graphic design projects. I put in so many hours to get everything finished, and it was 110% worth it.
I absolutely love what I'm doing every day. I don't know that many people who can honestly say that, but I can.
So I guess this little post has been a long-winded way of saying I'm starting a blog (only took me 600 words to get there!) I see so many other people blogging and sharing little things about their lives and I love reading them! So I'm jumping on the bandwagon.
This blog will be about lots of different things from photography and graphic design projects to things that are going on in our lives outside of work. Sometimes I feel like such a phony because I preach to people about how they need to capture those special moments in their lives, but I rarely take the time to capture the special moments in my own life. So this blog is my way of doing that!
Some things you might want to know about me so you know what to expect in future posts:
— We are newlyweds.
— We are renovating our house little by little.
— I'm a photographer, so obviously you'll see recaps of sessions.
— My husband is a full-time carpenter by day, and helps me with photo shoots and weddings when he can. He is literally a saint when it comes to second shooting and making children smile for pictures.
— I am learning to cook. I'm still not very good, but we watch Food Network like nobody's business. Maybe I'll share some recipes that even I can figure out how to make!
— I have Crohn's Disease. I've made it my goal this year to really advocate for myself, manage my illness and do my part in removing the stigma associated with Crohn's, so you might see something about it come across my blog every now and again.
— I have big dreams for what JS Creations could become. More on that later!
